| In the last couple of years there has been a resurgence in pairs skating at Centaurus. At the top level this is arguably the most spectacular of all skating events to watch. The lifts and throws are not for the fainthearted! The International Skating Union are pushing for more participation in pairs events and there are lots of opportunities for a good team to progress in the sport. |
It's not an easy discipline, and you really have to build a trust with your partner. Depending on the number of pairs skaters competing, special ice training time is allocated specifically to this event. You would normally have to be a competent skater in the first place before considering pairs, and it is the 'norm' at Centaurus for pairs skaters to compete as individuals as well, although this is by no means a requirement. 
From a male perspective, what better time can there be to ask your girlfriend if she minds you having a boys night out, than when you have just tossed her two metres in the air and she is relying on you to catch her or crash land into the ice! Was that a 'No' dear? …ooops - missed !!
